About Us
SWR Centre: Advancing knowledge to help societies rebuild and thrive.
Welcome to the Society, War & Recovery Research Centre (SWRRC) — an independent, interdisciplinary think tank dedicated to exploring how societies evolve, adapt, and rebuild during periods of transformation, crisis, or post-conflict recovery.
We bring together researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners to produce evidence-based insights that help governments, institutions, and international partners better understand the complexities of societal resilience and long-term reconstruction.
Our work spans economic development, social behaviour, political transformation, institutional reform, and crisis governance — providing a holistic, research-driven perspective on how nations can navigate disruption and emerge stronger.

Why Support Our Research?
War does not end when the fighting stops. Its effects spread across economies, institutions, an communities for decades, reshaping how societies function, how people recover, and how governments respond.
Through independent fieldwork and evidence-based analysis, we examine the real consequences of war — for those directly affected, and for the countries and communities that receive and support them.
Your contribution enables this research to continue. It funds data collection, fieldwork, and rigorous, independent analysis — ensuring that recovery and
reconstruction efforts are grounded in facts, not assumptions.

Why Support Our Research?
Evidence is the foundation of effective recovery. We bridge the gap between policy and reality through fieldwork in the UK and conflict-affected regions, examining the real impact of global crises on local communities and how British institutions and society respond to these challenges.
By providing independent, evidence-led insights, we help ensure that recovery and reconstruction efforts — in the UK and abroad — are sustainable, inclusive, and trauma-informed. Your support directly enables this vital data collection, ensuring policies are built on facts, not assumptions.
